The blaze broke just before 4 p.m. Wednesday at the condos located at 658 Success Ave., in Stratford, said Stratford Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Brian Lampart.
More than 25 firefighters from both Stratford and the Bridgeport fire departments worked for more than two hours in the extreme heat to extinguish the fire in the complex which included 30 units under one roof, Lampart said.
"The fire appears to have started on the outside of the building and within some plantings, burning its way up and into the building roof structure creating an extensive amount of damage," Lampart said.
Working with several pieces of fire apparatus, the firefighters aggressively battled the blaze, as well as rescued and evacuated many occupants and pets, he added.
During the blaze, Injuries were kept to a minimum with three occupants and one firefighter taken to area hospitals for evaluations, Lampart said. He did not elaborate on the injuries.
Shelton and Milford Fire Departments assisted with station coverage during the event.
